What | Girls Inc. of Tarrant County (GITC) is hosting its annual celebration of Day of the Girl on Fri., Oct. 11, celebrating girls everywhere. The United Nations recognizes the International Day of the Girl as a day when groups come together under the shared goal of supporting the rights and opportunities for girls. More than 1,200 youth and adults are expected to come together as a community to celebrate the day. This year, Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker is expected to attend and read a proclamation. The celebration will also feature GITC program participants of various ages, marching bands, celebratory signage and cheers in support of the organization’s Girls Bill of Rights, a list of six rights all girls have: Girls have the right to be themselves and resist stereotypes. Girls have the right to express themselves with originality and enthusiasm. Girls have the right to take risks, to strive freely, and to take pride in success.Girls have the right to accept and appreciate their bodies.Girls have the right to have confidence in themselves and to be safe in the world.Girls have the right to prepare for interesting work and economic independence. |
